REUTERS/Adnan Abidi/file photoMOIRANG/CHURACHANDPUR, India, Aug 8 (Reuters) - In the sectarian violence that has ravaged India's Manipur state, women have been victims of brutal attacks. Kukis say a loosely formed group of Meitei women, known as Meira Paibis, or Women Torchbearers, is responsible for instigating some of the rapes of women of the minority community. India's Supreme Court announced this week that it will monitor investigations into cases of sexual violence in the state. "Meira Paibis does not differentiate between Kuki or Meitei," she said, speaking alongside a group of other Meitei women. WORSE THAN ANARCHYThe women said they had heard of nine Meitei women being raped, but they had no evidence and were not directly aware of any incidents.

Velocity Global is a B2B software company that helps businesses hire and pay global talent. Liz Li joined the company as chief product officer after a 12-year tenure at LinkedIn in September 2022 with the goal to “ruthlessly prioritize” efficiency. "Velocity Global has a very strong mission for simplifying work, and technology is a great way for us to actually achieve those goals." But Li believes tech should be viewed simply as a tool — not a save-all when resources are scarce, but a way to help teams work better, not harder. "We're able to discover bigger issues for us to tackle and where we should shift our resources," Li said.

Steve Bandrowczak, the CEO of Xerox, leaned on company culture to execute his goals. But as economic forecasts began to sour in early 2023, and experts predict a likely recession this year, Bandrowczak began to count on Xerox's company culture to execute his goals. Build a culture of resilienceHow do you build a company culture of resilience? "The biggest hurdle is the culture, the easiest part is the technology side of it," Bandrowczak said.
This article is part of "Tech Leadership Playbook," a series that shares advice from the most innovative tech execs. Think like a tech company, even if you're not oneWhen Zhou started at Change.org, her goal was to help the organization scale and meet demand. "I think nowadays, every organization needs to think about themselves as a technology company," Zhou said. And while Change.org is a values-driven organization, Zhou instructed her team to think like a tech company: solutions-driven and fast on their feet. "If a team plans to utilize technology to make an impact, then they need to fundamentally position themselves as a technology company."
Athina Kanioura, PepsiCo's first-ever chief strategy and transformation officer, has revamped the company's internal digital strategies. "If you treat this as a technology change, it will not be successful," she said. "There weren't global standards," she said. "We had to work to correct and, in some cases, get rid of some of the standards that existed and replace them with global standards," she said. Mapping out a communication campaign and establishing global standards are great first steps, she said.
Consider using standard technology as a recruiting toolReavill said Commons uses standard technology externally, in its consumer-facing applications, but also internally as a means of attracting top talent. Although some CEOs are skeptical about remote work, Reavill believes more tech leaders should embrace it. The main thing stopping companies in the environmental industry from quickly progressing isn't technology, "because we have a lot of powerful technology," Reavill said. "When things get bigger, and things become much more complex, you have to introduce more powerful and, in some ways, more constraining tools," Reavill said. A common sign of internal strain is when training new employees on standard technology tools becomes a burden.

Many of my clients are high-net-worth individuals, which we define as anyone with more than $5 million in liquid financial assets. For most wealthy individuals, tax preparation is a year-round affair and does not start a few weeks before Tax Day. Tax preparation and planning for wealthy clients is complicated, so there is no set pricing package. Wealthy individuals, in some cases, have similar tax situations as the average Americans, just with more assets and expenses.
